Thank you to the Sheridan Homelands Ratepayers Association for organizing the October 6 Ward 2 candidates meeting, and to the more than 60 residents who attended despite the chilly weather.
As reported by Mississauga News on October 12, the meeting gave residents an opportunity to hear directly from candidates on important local issues.
During the evening, I expressed support for more traffic-calming measures on residential streets, supportive housing in Ward 2, fourplexes, protecting green spaces and stronger action on climate change. I also supported the Sheridan Park Drive extension and requiring developers to contribute a greater share of infrastructure costs associated with new housing.
Affordability and responsible spending remain central to my approach. I did not support a blanket property-tax freeze for 2027. Residents deserve careful scrutiny of spending alongside a clear assessment of the services and infrastructure our community needs.
I supported additional spending on shelter for people experiencing homelessness, while opposing the separate proposal to increase social-housing spending if it required tax increases or cuts to other services. These questions involve real trade-offs that deserve clear explanations.
I also supported improving public transit, even if that means higher fares, and using support services rather than enforcement to respond to public drug use.
Residents deserve an accessible councillor who explains decisions and listens to their concerns. Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate and learn more about the choices facing Ward 2.
